Mercedes Schlapp, the White House strategy director for communications has a challenging task. As White House's Strategic Communications Advisor, Mercedes Schlapp faces a myriad of problems. The president is his own director of communications. Numerous legal issues which could impact messaging strategies. And Cabinet Secretaries who have been involved in problems. Schlapp was focused throughout the process, working closely alongside the White House's legislative and political affairs teams along with policy shops as well as larger communications teams to oversee policies' implementation. She did draw a flurry of media attention when she was mentioned as a contender to replace Hope Hicks as communications director. Schlapp was a ally of Tony Sayegh who was also an aspirant. They started fighting in media. Schlapp stated that after that the Washington Examiner ran a story with negative remarks about Sayegh she had a discussion with him.
